Gary Kays of West Derby, Liverpool, who was found guilty of assisting Sean Mercer after they helped Mercer evade the police for months following the murder of Rhys Jones
Today, the ECHO can exclusively reveal how Gary Kays was able to have a sexual relationship while serving his jail sentence for his part in the schoolboy’s killing.
And days before his recent release, prison bosses granted the 28-year-old permission to rush to a hospital in Liverpool.
Kays was at his girlfriend’s bedside as she gave birth to a baby boy, his second child, one weekend in October.
But the reality that Kays was having a sexual relationship earlier this year while serving a prison sentence may come as a surprise to some members of the public.
The news means Kays was being allowed temporary release from at least as early as February, this year.
The Prison Service did not confirm how often he was permitted that perk during his time behind bars.
