Investigation: Tim Papworth
Investigation: Tim Papworth

The fiance of the nurse charged over the death of five hospital patients has been questioned on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

Detectives discovered hundreds of pornographic images of children at the flat Tim Papworth, 28, shares with Rebecca Leighton.
Computer equipment was removed from the premises in a dawn raid when police took Miss Leighton, 27, into custody as part of their investigation into the deaths at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

She was held and questioned for three days by detectives before finally being charged with six counts of sabotaging medical equipment.

There were allegedly more than 200 graphic images on one of the computers, believed to belong to Mr Papworth, who runs a darts shop. He was asked to attend a Manchester police station last week, where he was interviewed under caution in relation to the alleged child sex images.

Officers from Manchester Police’s Sexual Crimes Unit are leading the inquiry as well as a team from their Hi-Tech Crime Unit who have been examining the hard drives.

The photos found are believed to involve both adults and children. There was no suggestion that Miss Leighton is in any way connected with the alleged pornography.

Tattooed Mr Papworth attended Miss Leighton’s first appearance at magistrates’ court wearing a T-shirt with the slogan ‘You Can’t Beat A Bit Of Bully’ – a reference to Eighties TV show Bullseye.
