British man Shrien Dewani has been arrested by UK police at the request of the South African authorities after being accused of paying to have his wife killed.
Anni Dewani was shot dead by gunmen during their honeymoon in Cape Town.
Here is a timeline of what led up to his detention.
End of October, 2010 - Businessman Shrien, 31, and his Swedish bride are married in Mumbai, India.
November 7 - The couple, who first met 15 months earlier, arrive in South Africa for their honeymoon, spending the first few days on safari.
November 12 - They move on to Cape Town.
November 13 - The Dewanis' taxi is carjacked as they drive through the poor Gugulethu township in Cape Town.
The vehicle is driven off with Mrs Dewani inside after Shrien and their driver are released.
November 14 - Mrs Dewani, 28, is found shot dead in the bloodstained vehicle.

November 16 - Xolile Mngeni, 26, from Khayelitsha, is arrested by South African police in connection with the killing.
November 17 - Mr Dewani, 30, reportedly returns to the UK.
November 18 - Mzwamadoda Qwabe, 26, also from Khayelitsha, is arrested in connection with the killing.
Mngeni appears in Cape Town's Wynberg Regional Court charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

November 20 - The Dewanis' driver on the night of the killing, Zola Tongo, is also arrested.
November 22 - Tongo and Qwabe appear in a Cape Town court charged with the murder of Anni and hijacking.
Mrs Dewani's father Vinod Hindocha issues a statement saying his relationship with his son-in-law "is a good one and I love him like a son".
It emerges that Mr Dewani is being represented by PR guru Max Clifford.

November 23 - Mr Dewani rejects speculation that he was somehow involved in the killing, telling a UK newspaper it "defies logic".
November 24 - Mr Dewani's brother says the widow is receiving medical assistance to help him deal with the trauma.
December 6 - Reports emerge that Tongo will stand trial after drawing up a "plea bargain" with prosecutors.

December 7 - During a hearing at Cape High Court, Tongo says Mr Dewani offered £1,300 for the killing of his wife.
The claim emerges as Tongo is jailed for 18 years for his part in the murder. Mr Dewani's family dismiss his allegation as "totally ludicrous".
Mr Dewani hands himself in at a Bristol police station and is arrested at 10.38pm by officers from the Met Police's Extradition Unit on suspicion of conspiring to murder his wife.
His detention follows the issuing of an arrest warrant at the request of the South African authorities.
December 8 - Mr Dewani due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.
